Ten Tips to Reduce Stress at Work
Monday, August 31st, 2009

Stress affects us all at some time or other, and anxiety or stress is a constant factor in our lives. We can learn to peacefully coexist with it or let it ravage our lives. One place where stress is particularly high is in the workplace.

Learn to reduce your stress and enjoy your work life.

Stress at work is a normal occurrence in today’s society. With economic pressures everywhere, no one’s job is safe. Just knowing that you could be laid off creates enough anxiety to impact your productivity and your health. Here are some tips to help reduce stress at work:

Tip No. 1. Prepare yourself before work.
It is easy to get caught up in the negative atmosphere in a workplace. Resolve each morning that you will focus on the positive and not indulge in gossip or any other activity that brings down the morale at the office.

Tip No. 2. Get plenty of rest.
Sleeping between seven and eight hours a night gives the body time to repair you. Even your inner workings need downtime. Lack of sleep causes jitters, lack of concentration, irritability, and health problems.

Tip No. 3. Leave early in the morning.
Traffic jams, accidents, and car problems can turn that easy thirty minute commute into a forty-five minute one. With no time built in for error, you’ll stress out easily. Give yourself an extra fifteen or twenty minutes to make the trip.

Tip No. 4. Keep yourself in shape.
Exercise benefits the body and the mind. Stronger muscles and more blood flow to the brain increases clarity and decision making. Stress won’t get you down so easily when you are strong enough to combat it.

Tip No. 5. Eat a healthy diet.
Eating the wrong foods can affect your body and your work. Eating a heavy meal for lunch can make you lethargic all afternoon which ruins your focus and productivity. Choose healthier alternatives to keep the body in tiptop condition.

Tip No. 6. Don’t overload your schedule.
Keep your workload manageable. There will always be another day at the office to get things done. Leave a fifteen minute window between appointments in case one runs longer than you expected.

Tip No. 7. Delegate duties to others.
No one said that you have to get every task done all by yourself. If you work with a team, share the duties to avoid stressing out over each detail.

Tip No. 8. Take breaks throughout the day.
It could be as simple as getting up from your desk and taking a walk around the office to clear your mind. On your scheduled breaks, get away from your desk. You are more tempted to work when you stay at your desk and you won’t even feel like you got time away.

Tip No. 9. Learn to communicate effectively. You’d be surprised how many hard feelings come from misunderstandings. If you have a problem with a co-worker or manager, go to them and let them know. Letting the problem fester or spreading bad vibes around the office is one way to get a bad reputation, or worse, fired.

Tip No. 10. Avoid bad habits. Using alcohol or cigarettes to ease stressful times can lead to addictions you’ll have a hard time letting go of. Alcohol is a depressant and nicotine will only heighten your anxiety.

Stress can help you or hinder you. Be more productive and learn to manage it stress in the workplace.

Where did the Dark go?

People who are able to move rapidly into higher and higher incomes develop a greater awareness of their personal world and what is being created in their personal world. Let me explain the difference between two important words that will assist you in using this lesson to your greatest advantage.

Consciousness vs. Awareness:

People who get stuck in their current reality even though they have a sound understanding of universal laws and personal and business creation principles are not as unconscious as many would think. It’s very easy for someone to put these people in a box and say “They are unconscious of what they are doing.” After working with many people who have had this “being-stuck-in-their-current-reality-problem,” I can tell you that most of them are very conscious of the situation!

Consciousness (or being conscious of what you are being, doing and creating) is a proactive & deliberate intention on the part of the creator. However, it is only the first step in the realization of just how powerful and magnificent you really are. Consciousness sees and understands duality, and it can also get stuck there, which is why you will commonly hear conscious people ask “HOW” to do something i.e. “How do I raise my income to a million?”

There is an intellectual understanding at this level and some conscious deliberate creation has been experienced, but that is as far as it goes. The Conscious Creator will then commonly look for another model to use to change their circumstance and more often than not discovers that it does not work for them the way they had expected. They are very conscious of this.

Understanding awareness is the magic key, so to speak, that dissolves the nature of your reality and allows you to move from one reality to another at will. Awareness itself and by itself is an experience. It’s not something you do, but it is what you are.

“Aware people” change their reality as they see fit. When they are done experiencing one reality they simply step into another one. Consciousness wants to know how first and then make changes and then experience. Awareness is all about stepping into the experience first then playing in that experience. To make this very simple, it’s much like turning on the lights in a dark room. When you flip the light switch, light fills the room - but where did the dark go? Seriously, where DID the dark go? In truth, it didn’t go anywhere - it’s still there all around you. If you don’t believe me just flip the light switch off and see what happens. You may want to do this several times & really think about what you are experiencing.

Now think about this a bit more in the dark room. You are conscious of the things in the room, but you still see problems because you can’t seem to navigate through the dark. When you flip the light switch, your reality changes INSTANTLY and now you can see what you couldn’t see before - even though you consciously knew things were there! Because of intellectual understanding, you couldn’t see the way. All you could do was attempt to navigate your way around, which is the process of consciously thinking about what you are doing first, THEN receiving feedback from your environment, and lastly reacting to what you PERCEIVE your experience to be. Yes, it’s a mouthful but just sit with it for a while…

Okay, now lets move into a making a Quantum Leap…

Many people would love to know HOW to increase their income and better their individual circumstances. The key to leapfrogging (and not stair-stepping ), is to ask, “By staying in my current situation, what purpose is this serving?.” You see, awareness turns on the light every place there is dark. Discover WHY you would resist stepping into a different reality - and by discover, I literally mean become aware of why (don’t just repeat back what you think) then everything begins to change. Awareness = Quantum leaps. Period. No awareness, no quantum leap.

Would you like to know where your light switch is? Then let me suggest that you attend one of my upcoming live events so I can guide you personally. Just send an email to events@davidneagle.com and one of my team will be in touch to help you decide which of my upcoming live coaching sessions is best for you.

Remember: the reality you want to experience is only a flick of the switch away from you, but you need to be aware of where the switch is.

In my opinion, failure should be deleted from all of the dictionaries today.

We are surrounded by people who, because of the economy, have lost money, have lost their jobs, are perhaps not as well off as they were 12 months ago, thinking they have failed.

Does the word failure bring up negative thoughts for you? Have you ever held back on doing something because you were afraid of failure? Don’t be afraid to admit, because most people have! Let’s face it; no one likes to fail. None of us likes to feel that we’re ineffective, weak or lacking in any way, and that’s exactly how failure makes us feel.

However, you may be surprised to know that failure doesn’t exist – until YOU say it does.

In the dictionary, failure has several definitions:

1) a failing to do or perform
2) a state of inability to perform a normal function adequately
3) a fracturing or giving way under stress
4) a lack of success.

Look carefully at those definitions and you’ll probably realise they have one thing in common when it comes to goal achievement: failure is a PERCEPTION.

If you believe you have failed, then perhaps you have. If you believe you don’t have the ability to succeed, then, sadly, you don’t. If you believe you can’t handle the pressure of achieving your goals, well you can’t. If you believe you’re not successful, then guess what? You aren’t.

What would you do, if you knew you couldn’t fail? How would that make a difference to the way you approached things from now on?

Failure only exists in your own mind! The moment you decide to give up or stop working toward your goals, failure is born.

But what if you never do that? What if you continue working toward your goals, one step at a time for as long as it takes? There’s no failure then, is there?

This insight should be very encouraging if you’ve been working toward goals and not yet seeing positive results. Simply keep going and you cannot fail!

Here are three tips to help you stay strong and focused on your goals:

1) Never give yourself an out. Most people do this without even realising it. They are willing to work hard on achieving their goals, until the going gets tough or their motivation dwindles. Don’t do that! Commit to making your goals happen, no matter what! Never quit, never contemplate admitting defeat, and never lose your inner determination.

2) Don’t get hooked on a specific timeframe for completion, but be flexible. It’s great to set a general timeline, but be aware that sometimes circumstances will be beyond your control, so you can’t say for sure when your goal will be achieved. If you’re too rigid, you’re just setting yourself up for failure! Instead, get a general idea of when you’d like your goal to be completed, but then take it a day at a time and focus on making progress, not reaching the finish line in as little time as possible.

3) Finally, be sure that you don’t view obstacles and setbacks as failures. The two are completely different. An obstacle, setback or delay means only one thing: it’s not time for your goal to be completed yet. That’s it! It doesn’t mean you failed; it doesn’t mean you’re weak; it doesn’t mean you’ll never achieve your goals. It simply means you’re not done yet. You’ve got to keep moving forward and find a way around or through the obstacle.

Remember that there is no such thing as failure - it simply doesn’t exist.

What do we have instead?

Feedback!

That’s right. We are simply being made aware that what we are doing, or how we are doing something isn’t working and we therefore need to try something different.

Sometimes it may be necessary to speak to a buddy, a mentor or someone to give you some support as you try to figure out the different route to take when those times get tough.

Always remember to replace your thoughts of failure with the seeds of feedback and you will always be successful.

Effective marketing takes many forms and I am fortunate to be quided in Bernadette Doyle’s mentoring program, and I’d like to share with you a recent email I received from Bernadette.

An Unusual (But Highly Effective) Marketing Technique

Let me tell you a quick story. A few years ago I head of a store owner who had developed an interesting technique for increasing sales. Whenever trade slowed down, she would go around her store, touching the items that she sold, and silently blessing them. Whenever she did this, trade would pick up.

Not long after I heard that story, I was having a clear out and decided to sell some of my old books on Amazon. I listed the books and put them on the corner of my desk ready to send out when people bought.

Well this went on for about two weeks, but no orders came. I started to get irritated by the pile of unwanted books taking up valuable desk space. Every time I caught sight of the books I would groan inwardly.

Then I suddenly realised that I was doing the opposite of the enlightened store owner. To me the books were ‘unwanted’ and the world was agreeing with me! So I sat down and I picked up each book in turn. I thought about what I had learned from the book, and gave gratitude for it, then I imagined that book matching up with the next person in the world who would most benefit from it.

All six books sold out in the next 48 hours.

This experience got me thinking about how, for those of us who are selling ‘ourselves’, how powerful are thoughts are. When you’re selling yourself, every small judgment you have on yourself affects your value in the marketplace. The world will reflect back to you, with unerring accuracy, how much you value what you are selling. As long as I believed the books were ‘unwanted’, they were. As long as you believe that you’re ‘not good enough’ the market will agree with you.

In other words, learning to love yourself is a highly effective marketing technique! Louise Hay says, ‘When we really love and accept and approve of ourselves exactly as we are, then everything in life works. It’s as if little miracles are everywhere.’

Your self-love is a gift not just to yourself, but to everyone around you. That’s because a lack of self-love doesn’t just hurt you - it hurts the people around you too.

If you don’t truly love yourself, then your children, partner, family, colleagues and clients are probably already paying a price.

Today bless yourself, the talents you were born with, the skills you have honed, the experience you have earned. You deserve quiet glow of self-appreciation that warms you no matter what is happening in the world. You deserve an end to the self-criticism, self-blame, self-deprecation that keeps you small and hurts not just you, but the people around you too.

I told you this was an unusual marketing technique, but don’t be surprised that as you do this, new opportunities pop up in expected places. Just try it with an open mind and see for yourself!

© Bernadette Doyle, 2009

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did - and I hope you put this unusual but highly effective marketing technique into practice.

The Power of Gratitude
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

As I pack up for the night, it is with thoughts of gratitude. It is these thoughts that consume me as I fear for those who have been struck by the devastating bushfires in Victoria.

The hundreds and thousands of people that have lost loved ones, their homes, their pets and more. So many thousands of families are affected - not just those who have lost homes, family members and friends, but all their families and friends as well. So many people are suffering in some way because of these fires. The magnitude of this disaster is enormous, and my thoughts and prayers are with them all.

I am extremely grateful for all that I have in my life - my family, my home, my pets, my friends, my health, my business and all the material possessions I have accumulated over the years. I am making a list which is already over 114 items - and will keep going, as long as I continue to find things to write.

My challenge to you is - take out a pen and paper and begin writing all that you are grateful for today. Include simple things as enjoying your evening meal, sleeping in a comfortable bed, sitting in a cosy armchair, seeing the rainbow this afternoon.

It is often the simple, little things we take for granted that make all the difference in our lives.

As you think of those less fortunate, take a moment to show gratitude for ALL you do have.

You will be amazed at how you feel when you truly acknowledge all that you have.

The power of gratitude will raise you.

In eager anticipation, you sit and wait for the presentations to begin.

Benefits of Live Events

Tips to Survive and Even Enjoy the Holidays

Great Tips to Survive and Even Enjoy the Holidays

Yippee! it’s that time of year again. The holiday season is upon us.

But, is it “the most wonderful time of the year?”

We get time away from work, a chance to catch up with the family, open presents, eat great food, drink champagne - lots of great things can come into our lives.

The holiday season is also a time when we have to chance to sabotage our weight loss efforts, over extend the credit cards, drink way too much alcohol and most of all - we get to stress out.

So instead of simply surviving these Christmas holidays, wouldn’t it be great to actually enjoy them. Have fun?

The following tips and tricks will allow you to do just that!

1. Understand that it is the way you think about things or your attitude that dictates your emotions. You have the choice to be anxious or stressed. You also have the choice to understand what is triggering your emotional state. Be aware of what or who it is that causes your discomfort. Take slow deep breathes and control the way you are thinking about this, and how it is affecting you.

2. This is a perfect time of year to lower your expectations or put them into perspective. Limit the demands you make of yourself and replace such thoughts of ‘must’, ’should’ and ‘have to’ with
‘maybe’, ‘I wish’ or ‘I prefer’.

3. Never show up at hungry! When you see the tables covered with all the delicious foods, desserts, stuffings, cakes and sweets, you just want to eat it all up. Our number one enemy is the sweet
cravings and hunger pangs which in turn make us overeat. So eat something beforehand such as some whole food protein and veggies that will keep the stomach full longer. Enjoy the treats but remember,
moderation is key.

4. Drink Plenty of Water. We know it is great for cellular functions, removal of toxins and also keeps you feeling full. To keep the hang-overs at bay, remember to alternate ‘festive’ drinks with water.

5. Make a budget for how much you can afford to spend on your gifts and stick to it. Reduce your gift list or exchange gifts with fewer people. Instead, give these people some of your time - go for a drive
and see the christmas lights. Be creative with alternatives to purchased gifts, such as homemade treats or offer your services, or even suggest a ’secret santa’.

“holidays act like an amplifiers…, exaggerating our experience of
the good things and the bad things in our lives.”

Family expectations, social obligations, financial pressures and alcohol collide. Making matters worse, we usually experience less sleep and more activities which creates more tension.

‘Our job is to focus that exaggeration on the good’.

It’s best to:

- Remember what’s important
- Pace yourself
- Postpone grudges
- Set limits - financial, psychological, dietary etc

The key to enjoying the holiday season is, as the song by Willie Nelson goes,

“You gotta acc-entuate the positive and e-liminate the negative.”

Our holidays might not be stress free as we’d like, and we may not always enjoy every minute, but if you approach them with the attitude, ‘This time in our life is temporary. Not only can I get through this time, but really enjoy it’ instead of the negative approach “Oh, this is going to be a nightmare’. This new found attitude sets the stage for you to experience the most joy at this time of year.

“Remember the holidays are temporary; January will be here before you know it.”

On that note, may I wish you all a fabulous Christmas Season and use these tips to survive and even enjoy the holidays!

EXPERT
Become an expert at what you love, learn everything about it. Knowledge and passion leads to wealth.

ZOOM
Get into the race car of life, buckle up, shift it into overdrive, put the pedal to the metal and zoom your way to the top.

Strategies to Support Women in Midlife
Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Strategies to Support Women in Midlife
whose light is shining within them, and is looking to shine more brightly each day.

Focus on your assets and abilities rather than what you consider to be your flaws.

The principle that “What we focus on increases” applies particularly to our emphasis on what’s not up to our standards in our own person or character, in other words ‘our perception’ of ourselves. Remember that praising good behaviour yields more good behaviour. It’s true with children. It’s even more true with ourselves. What nice thing have you said TO and ABOUT yourself today?

Look back when you want to see what you have accomplished, instead of ahead.

It’s difficult to measure progress when you are always looking at how far you still have to go. Adapt the spiritual truth that ‘there is no where to get to and you’ll never get it done.’ This has been incredibly helpful for me - since one of my mantras has been - “I’m not doing enough!”

Find an older mentor that you admire & mentor a younger person.

Isn’t it true that even some of the popular magazines are now pointing to midlife role models who are women over 40. Our time has come. And with it comes the call to give back. We didn’t have a lot of role models when we were young. “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Find your own voice and spiritual center.

No one else can be You as well as you can. All your experience is worth sharing. Spend time discovering your essence and go ahead and be yourself. This is KEY to helping make the ageing process a happy one. Being ’selfish’ requires finding your true SELF - and nothing is more important.

Do at least one new thing for each birthday that stretches you beyond what you thought possible.

The spiritual life is about celebrating ever-expanding Good. One of my friends shared this tip with me many years ago. A fairly serious man, he took a class and actually performed in a stand-up comedy club. Another older woman friend went up in a air-balloon for her 80th birthday celebration. Another friend just bought a red convertible - what about you?

Make a scrapbook of your life - and write what you appreciate about each year that has passed.

Put at least one picture for each year, and where you don’t have real pictures, put something from a magazine that represented who you were at that time. Then, list the people who had been part of your lives and all the events that took place that you now consider significant.

Creating your scrapbook using stickers and stencils and beautifully colored papers. You may have never considered yourself as an artist, but this book can be something you will treasure as much as any work of art.

SMILE more.
Stop worrying about wrinkles. It’s amazing how many endorphins are released just by smiling. You cannot feel down when your lips are turned up.
